About the Brunch Club

The brunch club is what happens when you have 3 busy people who can't commit to something unless it's either absolutely spontaneous or absolutely scheduled, who really like brunch and aren't that creative with naming things.

This project came about in December, when myself and 2 friends (collectively to be known as JAM because initials and breakfast), met for brunch, after not managing to see each other for over a month and a half.  I have been telling M since she moved to St. Louis over a year ago about all the places I want to take her for food, and J and I have been making and losing lists of restaurants we wanted to try for...probably 2 years now.  So over organic (probably) breakfast dishes, we decided that not only should we make a list and not lose it, but that, in order that we might see each other on a semi-regular basis, we should schedule a monthly brunch.  We're all turning 30 this year, and it seemed like an appropriate goal for 2018.  And I mean...breakfast. Is there any better food?  And thus: the brunch club was born.

The rules are: we will keep a running list of places to try (some of which will actually be lunch places but let's not confuse the issue this sounds snappier and we can rip off an 80s movie to do it). On the second week of the month, on a day that somehow works for everyone's schedules, we will draw a place out of the hat. ...the hat is currently electronic.  We are allowed to pick 3 places, so that if we're not feeling the hat's first choice we are not doomed to a sad breakfast.  Then we will go, and we will eat, and this way we will see each other...and we will do things and go out like people are supposed to do probably.

That's a long explanation for a really short process, but there you have it.  The blog idea came about during the second meeting of the brunch club, because it seemed like a fun thing to chronicle what we're doing, to review the places we go, and....so we can remember what we ate and what we talked about 3 months from now when we've all forgotten.

Also there will be cats. They have nothing to do with breakfast but I have them and it's probably a universal law that I have to post about them.

So please enjoy breakfast and nonsense and cats.  I will try to make this interesting, and maybe even helpful, but no promises.

Much love, and happy reading!
JAM
